1.  Natural Deodorizer
Lemongrass oil’s fresh scent makes it a brilliant, natural and safe air freshener for your home or office. It is also non-toxic unlike aerosol sprays or plug-in air fresheners.
Add 3-4 drops of the oil to water in a spray bottle and mist when desired, or add about 3 drops into a diffuser in any room of the house.  Add in a couple drops of lavender or peppermint essential oils to receive the extra benefits and to customize your own natural fragrance.
2. Skin & Hair Health
Lemongrass essential oil is wonderful to use for skin restorative benefits. It works as a fresh, all natural cleanser for oily, dry or combination skin types. Thanks to its antiseptic and astringent properties, it's great for obtaining even, toned and glowing skin. It can sterilize your pores, serve as a natural toner, and reinforce skin tissues. Lemongrass oil also strengthens hair follicles which assists with hair loss as well as itchy and irritated scalps.
Massage a few drops of lemongrass oil into your scalp for two minutes and then rinse. The calming and antibacterial properties will leave the hair shiny and fresh. Also try adding lemongrass oil to shampoos, conditioners, deodorants, soaps, and lotions.

3. Natural Bug Repellent
Due to lemongrass oil’s great citral and geraniol (contains citronella) content, it is known to repel bugs like mosquitoes and ants. This natural repellent can be sprayed directly on the skin when diluted in a solution.
Add 40-50 drops of lemongrass essential oil to an 8 oz. glass spray bottle filled with water. Also try adding eucalyptus, citronella, tea tree, or rosemary essential oils to the mixture.  The more oils you add, the stronger and more effective the spray will be.
Try using lemongrass oil to kill fleas also! Add about 5 drops of oil to a spray bottle filled with water and then apply the spray to your pet’s coat.
4. Muscle Relaxer
Experiencing aches and pains? Lemongrass oil helps to improve blood circulation, therefore relieving cramps, muscle spasms, back aches, and sprains. Try mixing 4-5 drops of lemongrass oil with coconut oil or another type of carrier oil, then rub onto the achy area.
For cramps, drinking lemongrass tea can help women with menstrual cramps and other PMS symptoms like nausea, headaches and irritability. Drink two cups of lemongrass tea a day to relieve pain associated with your menstrual cycle.
5. Antioxidant Properties
Studies have shown that lemongrass oil has the ability to fight off free radicals in the body. Free radicals are produced in the body to aid in metabolic processes such as digestion and the exchange of food into energy. They can be beneficial in many of the body's natural functions. However, when an abundance of free radicals is produced, it can become damaging to our health. Our bodies try to protect us from free radical damage by producing enzymes that neutralize them. However, they are not capable of handling this function without antioxidants provided by our diets.  Antioxidants are protective molecules that neutralize free radicals with electrons, rendering them harmless.
Lemongrass oil is often used in hot teas, soups and curries. Make an antioxidant tea with 6 oz. of hot water and 2-3 drops of lemongrass oil.

6. Reduces Stress/ Sleep Aid
The delightful, calming and mild smell of lemongrass oil is known to dismiss anxiety, irritability, and insomnia. The tranquilizing and hypnotic properties of lemongrass oil can help to improve the duration and quality of sleep.
To relieve stress, simply diffuse lemongrass oil in a diffuser or create your own lemongrass massage oil with your favorite carrier oil. Add lavender essential oil to the mix for ultimate calming effects. Another good way to calm yourself before sleep is to add lemongrass oil to your body lotion and apply all over the body before bed.

7. Helps Relieve Headaches & Migraines
The calming and soothing effects of lemongrass oil has the ability to diminish the throbbing, pressure, or tension that can cause those bothersome headaches. Lemongrass essential oil is often used to relieve mental exhaustion, fatigue, stress and is a very uplifting oil. It’s an excellent choice for those whose migraines bring on emotional symptoms of depression and / or panic.
Mix 2 drops with a dab of coconut oil, then rub into the temples. You can also diffuse 3-4 drops in a diffuser to obtain headache or migraine relief.

8. Detoxification
Lemongrass oil is known to detox the digestive tract, liver, kidneys, bladder and pancreas. As a diuretic, lemongrass oil will help you to flush harmful toxins out of your body. Keep your system clean by adding a few drops into your soup or tea.

9. Reduces Inflammation
The anti-inflammatory properties of lemongrass oil comes from the limonene in the plant. Inflammation has been connected to just about every health condition and it plays a role in allergic diseases like asthma, arthritis, Crohn’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and Parkinson’s disease.
By allowing nutrients to be absorbed into the body, lemongrass oil also boosts the immune system. The oil can be vital in restoring your system and it can help to keep the organs working properly.
10. Helps with Digestive Disorders
Lemongrass has been known for centuries to alleviate  stomach distress, gastritis, and gastric ulcers. Modern research has also found this to be true. Adding lemongrass oil or infused lemongrass water to your tea or soup can ease stomach pains, nausea or diarrhea.
Lemongrass oil can help relieve pain from flatulence in the stomach and bowels, and it can remove toxins from the body easily since it increases urination. Lemongrass is supportive in the deterrence of gastrointestinal disorders such as gastric ulcers because it helps to stimulate the  bowel function and it progresses digestion.

Great article. I'm often asked by my customers about your third point, and it's true. I would add peppermint oil to the list, as well. Thanks for posting.
